So, How Do Hashtags Work?
The hashtags are like Television Channels. Like, if you turn on a sports channel then you will get to see various sports/games. If you move to the news channel then we can get to see the fresh news about your area or worldwide. Hashtags work the same as tv channels. Here, Instagram is like a Television and hashtags are its channels. If you click on one hashtag, you will see the most recent as well as the top posts featuring that hashtag. If you are particularly interested in that topic then you can follow individual hashtags just like you follow individual profiles on Instagram.
Why you should use hashtags?
It’s a piece of gem to grow your audience on Instagram. And you must use hashtags in your photography work if you want to get noticed. How to choose the right hashtags?
Sometimes, it can be difficult to make yourself stand out in millions of pictures uploaded daily even if you add hashtags to your Instagram photography posts. The solution is – you need to be specific. You have to choose the right hashtags for your posts. Niche down your photography genre. If you are a portrait photographer as well as a street photographer, I will strongly recommend you to use separate Instagram profile for each genre. And use specific hashtags related to portrait photography in your portrait photography page posts and same goes for the street photography as well.
Now, you might be excited to fill your feed with the most widely used photography hashtags in order to maximize your posts reach. #photography, #photooftheday, #photos – these are a few over-popular examples, with posts numbering in the hundreds of millions. If you use these most popular hashtags, your images will get lost among millions of other posts. On the flip side, if your Instagram hashtags are too specific, very few users will search for them, and you’ll end up with no or very little engagement at all.
My advice:- The best thing is to use a mix of more and less popular hashtags. Like between the hashtags has 10k and 500k posts under it. Then it will have a better chance for your post to get noticed. Always be niche specific.

- 10 moderately popular hashtags (about 10,000 to 100,000 posts)

- 5 branded hashtags (hashtags specifically related to your brand)
Note:- Instagram lets you use a maximum of 30 hashtags per post. So your choice is very less. Choose your hashtags carefully.
